Client: Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI)
Project: DLI is the lead state agency for federal registered apprenticeship programs hosted by employers or sponsors in Minnesota that serve over 11,000 apprentices throughout the state. DLI regulates and provides guidance, support, and grants to expand and improve apprenticeship programs and experiences into more fields and underrepresented groups including women and people of color.
The purpose of this project was to identify issues and resources to help improve apprenticeship completion and success rates, and then develop some of the key resources. To learn about needs, we sought process and content guidance from advisory teams of apprentices and employers/ sponsors, then engaged nearly 500 registered apprentices and employers/ sponsors statewide.
Stakeholders provided perspectives on critical challenges and supports that affect the apprenticeship experience and results. Prepared detailed recommendations from that guidance, and used that content along with extensive research on key topics to develop four critical learning resources for the 11,000+ registered apprentices in Minnesota: Orientation, financial literacy, mentoring, and peer-to-peer supports.
- Financial Literacy Apprentice Workbook
- Orientation Guide for Employers/Sponsors, and for Apprentices
- Mentoring Guidebook
- Peer-to-Peer Resource
